Applying to medical or dental school in the UK, Australia, or New Zealand is a rigorous process, and for the majority of universities, the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) is the first major hurdle.

Early May: Registration (the UCAT application portal) opens. You can create your account for free. Mid-May to Late May: Booking begins. You choose your test date and center. July to Early October: The testing window. Most candidates sit the test in August or September. Mid-October (typically 16th): UCAS deadline for medicine/dentistry. 2. Who Must Take the UCAT?

  • Undergraduate entry applicants (straight from high school or gap year) to UCAT-using universities.
  • Graduate applicants applying to accelerated graduate-entry programs that explicitly require UCAT (e.g., Warwick, Newcastle [Aus]).
  • International students applying to those same universities.
  • Not required for: Postgraduate medicine (GAMSAT/MCAT usually), or universities using BMAT (now discontinued in UK; check replacement).
