In the post-ecommerce boom of 2000, security mattered. IE 5.0 SP2 backported strong 128-bit SSL encryption to Windows 95 and NT 4.0. This was huge. Suddenly, companies using legacy NT servers could process credit cards without upgrading their entire operating system.
