- Only target your own systems. Running a wordlist against a company's login portal without written permission is a felony in most jurisdictions (Computer Fraud and Abuse Act in the US).
- Beware of backdoored lists. Malicious actors upload wordlists to GitHub containing reverse shells or encoded exploits. Only download from reputed authors (Daniel Miessler, G0tmi1k, etc.).
- Antivirus flags. Many wordlists contain test strings that look like malware signatures (e.g.,
