Custom Highways For Clone Hero -
What Are Custom Highways?
In Clone Hero, the "highway" is the scrolling lane where notes travel toward the strike line. A custom highway replaces the default background, colors, and often the shape/style of that lane. These can range from simple color changes to animated video backgrounds, themed designs (e.g., Guitar Hero classics, Rock Band, anime, neon grids), or even 3D-style lanes.
Tips for Best Results
- Backup default highways – rename or copy the original
defaultfolder if you plan to overwrite. - Use dark/neutral highways for sightreading difficult songs.
- Match note color opacity – if your highway is busy, lower note opacity so notes remain visible.
- Combine with custom noteskins for a full visual overhaul.
Video Highways: For a more dynamic feel, you can use animated highways. These must be placed in Custom/Video Highways. Each video requires its own folder (named as you want it to appear in-game), and the video file itself must be named highway.webm and encoded using the VP8 codec.
