The AmigaOS 3.1 Kickstart ROM for the Amiga 600 (A600) Go to product viewer dialog for this item.

Historians from the Amiga Hardware Database suggest that version 3.10 was an internal "stepstone" release—a beta build intended to backport A1200 features to the A600 hardware. It was allegedly compiled in early 1993, with build numbers hovering around 39.200. This ROM would have given the A600:

drivers that improve reliability when booting from internal IDE drives. It also provides the foundation needed to handle partitions up to 4GB, a huge jump for classic hardware. WHDLoad Compatibility

1. Plug-and-Play HD Support

Back in the early 90s, installing a hard drive in an A600 was an exercise in frustration. The stock Kickstart 2.05 ROM had limitations that made hard drive management clunky. Users often had to rely on third-party software like HDToolbox variants just to get a drive recognized.

AmigaOS 3.1.4 includes the updated ram.drive and card.resource that handle memory allocation much more efficiently. The system is rock solid. If you are using an accelerator card (like the popular TerribleFire or ACA cards), the 3.1.4 ROM ensures that software runs in the correct memory spaces, reducing crashes and "Guru Meditations."

While Kickstart 2 was stable, it lacked the polish, features, and sheer usability of the later Kickstart 3.1 found in the big-box Amigas (the A1200 and A4000). For the A600, the "official" 3.1 ROM was elusive, often requiring hardware patches or specific, hard-to-find chips.
